Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum

  Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum was built in 1542 in honor of Imam Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ismail al-Kaffal ash-Shoshiy. It is asymmetrical domed mausoleum – khanaka where the pilgrims lived. The complex of the mausoleum included a mosque and oshhona – room for cooking. There are more recent burial (sagana) in a small yard.

  Abu Bakr ibn Ismail al-Kaffal Shoshiy is Islam scientist. For a while, Abu Bakr Kaffol Shoshiy lived in Samarkand, he visited Arab towns: Hijaz, Baghdad, Damascus. It is known that he had deep knowledge in many fields of science, so he was revered among scholars and ordinary people.

  Kaffal Shashi mausoleum is an architectural building of XVI century, topped with a large blue dome. The building is constructed of brick, adorned with majolica of historical inscription. There are graves of Great Imam’s sons - Muhammad at-Shashi and Nizamiddin Shashi.

  The tomb of the Great Imam is a very revered place of worship for Muslims around the world.
