More than 100 ancient Samarkand coins were found in La Rinconada (Sevilla, Spain). Scientists suggest that the coins were minted more than 1,000 years ago in Samarkand. The treasure consists of more than a hundred denominations Omeyad Emirate.

This finding demonstrates that al-Andalus was one of the main commercial and strategic center of the Middle Ages.

As the Fund “Archeology” reports, today the collection of coins is in the Archaeological Museum of Seville. It is important to note that in the years 700-715 eastern Iran and Maverannahr, Amudarya and Syrdarya were captured by Omeyad army.
